Gary Fribance, President, Powell River

Gary received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from UBC in 1965 and his Chartered Accountant’s designation in 1968.  He was a Partner with KPMG, Chartered Accountants, and predecessor firms.  During his career he was the Managing Partner of a mid-sized office, Chairman of a National Specialized Industry Committee and a member of the National Firm’s Board of Directors.  He was also an investment advisor with Raymond James.  Gary has served as an officer and director of many organizations.  He was President of his Chamber of Commerce and his Rotary Club and Chairman of the B.C. Chamber of Commerce Education Committee.  In semi-retirement he offers consulting services particularly in business planning and related matters.

Colin Palmer, Vice-president, Powell River

Colin has been a resident of Powell River for fifty years. He has served the city as a Councillor and then its Mayor, the Chamber of Commerce as President, and the Community Futures Development Corporation as Chair.   He also sat on the Provincial Environmental Appeal Board and was leader of a group of Coastal Regional District Chairs focusing on Ferry Issues.  He is at present the Director for Area C on the Regional Board.  A graduate of London University, UK, Colin was originally a teacher before starting Phoenix Printing, a business he continues to operate.

Richard Furness, Secretary, Powell River

Richard is a retired journalist who worked for several newspapers including The Globe and Mail before taking a job at Ontario Hydro writing speeches and dealing with government and the media.  In 1994 he moved to British Columbia and bought The Boundary Creek Times, a small newspaper in the historic Kettle Valley, serving it as Editor and Publisher.  A student of English and History, he graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1964.  He settled in Powell River in 2006.

David Rees, Director, Powell River

Dave is a lifetime resident of the area, and raised his family here.  After working in the mill for 36 years, he served as president of Tourism Powell River and treasurer for the Powell River Writers Festival.

Tod English, Director, Powell River

Tod was born and raised in Powell River, left for a few years to play professional hockey in Germany, then returned to be involved in the family business that dates back to the Sixties. As a member of the Powell River Regals, Tod played and coached in nine Allan Cup championships and toured with the team internationally. He has chaired three National Championships in Powell River and hosted numerous provincial and interprovincial events as part of the Powell River Regal Hockey Society. A Certified Financial Planner, Tod was in the financial services business for twenty years.

Jim Whittaker, Squamish

After leaving UBC in 1963, Jim was in the logging business until the mid 90s when his business shifted to logging road building and land development.  Jim is now semi-retired in Squamish.

André Villeneuve, Director, Powell River

Andre is a Professional Engineer with more than 33 years of experience in the mining and construction industries, and has been working since 1989 as an independent mining and civil consultant. He has extensive project and construction management as well as construction claims resolution experience with a wide range of mining, hydroelectric, tunneling, heavy civil and industrial construction projects in the Americas, Africa and Australasia.  He is fluent in English, French and Spanish with a working knowledge of Portuguese.  He graduated from the University of Montreal (Ecole Polytechnique) in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering. Robert Hainsworth, Director, Powell River

Robert attended the University of Prince Edward Island where he was the class Valedictorian when he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 2013.  He went on to earn a law degree from Osgoode Hall at York University in Toronto in 2016.  He is with Fleming & Associates, Lawyers, in Powell River.

Meaghan Westie, Director, Powell River

Meaghan was born and raised in Powell River, never having left, and works as a full time Realtor for RE/MAX Powell River. She is a proud mother of two very active school aged children whom are part of various sports and arts organizations in the area. Meaghan is very active in the outdoors, spending any free time hiking the local trails or on Powell Lake at the family cabin. In the winter Meaghan is exploring the back country of Powell River, snowmobiling, skiing and snowshoeing.
